GEO is the practice of optimizing your content and brand so generative AI engines — ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Gemini — cite you when they answer a buyer's question. It's also called AI search optimization or answer engine optimization. Where SEO competes for rankings, GEO competes for citations in the AI answer itself.
